Once a Skipper, Always a Skipper

Pride of the Humber

Captain Seal — known to the fans as Skipper — is more than a mascot. He is the spirit of Grimsby United: friendly, fearless, and always ready to cheer on the team from the touchline.

Dressed in the club's black-and-white stripes and a captain's cap, Skipper represents the deep connection between our club and the sea. Seals are a familiar sight along the Cleethorpes and Humber coastline, where they bask on the beach and swim in the estuary. Just like those seals, our club belongs to the shoreline — open to everyone, welcoming to all, and proudly rooted in Grimsby.

Whether you're a first-time visitor, a lifelong supporter, or a junior taking your first kick, Skipper is here to make sure you feel part of the crew.

What Skipper Stands For

Leadership

We lead by example on and off the pitch, lifting others up and showing what it means to wear the black-and-white stripes.

Togetherness

Stronger as a team, stronger as a club. Every player, volunteer, parent and supporter is part of the crew.

Respect

We respect each other, our club and our community. Win humbly, lose with grace, and always shake hands at full time.

Ambition

We aim high and never stop learning. Every training session is a chance to improve — for football, and for life.

Humber Wildlife

Seals on our shoreline

Grimsby and Cleethorpes sit on the edge of the Humber Estuary, one of the UK's most important wildlife habitats. Grey seals and harbour seals are regularly spotted along the beach, resting on sandbanks and bobbing in the water.

Captain Seal celebrates that local heritage. He is a reminder that our club is part of the wider community — the beach, the docks, the estuary and the people who live here. When you support Grimsby United, you support the Humber itself.

Come say hello
